Second seed Amelie Mauresmo from France will meet top seed Venus Williams at the J&S Cup final inWarsaw. Mauresmo defeated Yugoslavia’s Jelena Dokic in two sets 7-5 6-2. American Venus Williams beats Czech Denisa Chladkova in straight sets 6-3 7-6.
Venus Williams finished the first set according to her status on the ranking. The second set showed a different ballgame and Williams was forced to play a tie-break after her power game let her down. The new #2 of the WTA ranking, replacing Kim Clijsters of Belgium who desired a weeks rest, took the tie-break eventualy 7-5.
Williams said she was making too manny mistakes thinking too much about her shots instead of playing them. “But I know how to do it tomorrow” she adds about playing the final against Amelie Mauresmo.
Venus’ father Richard Williams was interviewed by the French Le Equipe Magazine where he claimed that the tennisworld is disturbed about both Venus’ and Serena’s ongoing succes.
"We'll always be around. There are tournaments we're going to skip but we'll play and win all the grand slams," he said. "In the six or seven years to come, we won't leave anything to anybody, or only by pure chance.
"Yes, they're going to win about everything. I looked at the juniors and I did not see anyone coming up. Nothing can stop us," he said.
.
"So women's tennis is getting boring. And you know why? Because two lovely black women dominate it”.
"They're better than the white girls and that's intolerable. It's downgrading, lamentable," Richard Williams said that both girls are victims of racial prejudice and that the WTA is not very pleased Venus and Serena dominating the ranking.
"They're disturbed by our being there. They've tried everything they could to tame us, to recuperate us and when they couldn't, they said I was a mad man," he said.
"Have
you never heard people say: 'They're physically too strong not to have taken
doping'?
"Now
it's a new story. They say: 'The Williams sisters dominate tennis so much
they're going to kill the show, to kill tennis'.
"And
I say to all the old white guys, why don't you leave the stands?," he said.
"The
whites have always said that black people were robbers. My daughters are
robbers. They're going to rob you of your best shot and make it our best shot.
"My daughters are the best two robbers in the world," he said
