Pietersen in form as Outlaws triumph

Pietersen hit 147 from 101 balls - smashing five sixes and 16 fours - in Notts' 59-run victory. He guided Notts to a daunting 296 for seven and, after the Sabres lost their first four wickets in reply with just 35 on the board, they were always chasing the game.

Although the hosts were up on the run rate for long periods, they soon ran out of wickets. Opener Peter Bowler was clean bowled by Richard Logan for a duck and although pinch-hitter Richard Johnson clobbered 25 off just eight balls he fell in similar fashion to the same bowler.

Jamie Cox was then controversially adjudged lbw for two off David Lucas and Michael Burns departed next ball lbw to give the medium-pacer a hat-trick chance. That did not materialise and Ian Blackwell made 31 off 22 balls before he was clean bowled by Lucas with the score on 80.

Keith Parsons (73 off 74) and Matthew Wood (61 off 81) made an admirable bid to keep their side in the hunt, putting on 91 for the sixth wicket, but when the former was trapped lbw by Steve Randall, the Sabres lost their way.

Randall then clean bowled Rob Turner for two and although Keith Dutch shared in a 45-run eighth-wicket stand with Wood before Paul Franks had him caught by Logan for 18, Somerset had slumped to 225 for eight.

Wood was clean bowled by Franks and last man out Steffan Jones became the right-armer's third scalp, bowled for a duck to leave Simon Francis stranded on two not out and the Sabres all out for 237 in the 38th over.
