Newey: Mclaren Will Bounce Back
By Sam Cooper
January 28 2007
Former technical director Adrian Newey thinks that double world champion Fernando Alonso will help the Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes team back to the success that they enjoyed in the late 1990’s. Will they be able to do this without Adrian’s help?
Adrian had to say this about how Mclaren will bounce back.
"Mclaren is a tough team," Newey said. "With Alonso they've got probably the most proven driver in the field, especially given Michael Schumacher's retirement."
"Some of the things that hindered them last year - the tyre development direction and possibly even the engine rules, have now fallen into their hands," he added. "So I'd imagine they will be very competitive this year."
Mclaren have the resources, they have the drivers, they have the engine, but can they return to their winning ways?
Will Mclaren be able to bounce back?
After one and a half hours racing round the Albert Park Circuit then we will know.
