Pushing For Development

Despite leading both championships, Pedro De La Rosa has commented on McLarens desire to have the fastest car in 2007, the team bringing out new aero developments for the Spanish Grand Prix.

From the end of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the employees at the MTC (McLaren Technology Centre) have been working hard to make a new aero upgrades for championship leaders, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton.

Though the car won’t look radically different, but the car is faster. "The updated package is not aesthetically very different," F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh is quoted as saying by the Spanish newspaper Diario As, "but we hope to bring a winning car to Barcelona.

The main changes on the car are around the rear wing, sidepods, and the bargeboards at the front of the car. But will this be enough to keep McLaren at the front of the grid, ahead of Ferrari? Test driver Pedro De La Rosa thinks so

"The objective is not only to continue to fight; it is to win the championships," de la Rosa said. "The team that will win the championship is the team that will develop their car better and faster whilst maintaining high reliability. Our reliability so far has been good, but it is important that we continue to finish races. We have to continue with the hard work, and have to make sure that any new parts we introduce are reliable enough.

"Every department of the racing operation is working flat out," he added. "There are a lot of new parts that we will introduce gradually, from aerodynamic changes to mechanic changes. It is on every single item of the car, that there will be some development coming. Everyone else is also doing this at the moment, so we will have to wait for an answer about who is developing the fastest."
