Qualifying: Hamilton Grabs Home Pole, Alonso 3rd.

Lewis Hamilton thrilled his home crowd on Saturday, as the twenty two year old grabbed pole position by pulling a incredible lap, which his closest rivals were unable to beat. The young Brit looked to be struggling with his MP4-22, but proved that he can find pace when it really matters. Fernando Alonso looked disappointed with 3rd place, but we think he is running heavier than other drivers.

The Spaniard had looked the faster of the two McLarens in the first and second parts of Saturday’s qualifying session, with the Ferrari’s in the mix for an all important pole position.

This wasn’t the case in the final part of qualifying, the Spaniard seemed to struggle with his car, and the Ferrari’s were not as quick as Lewis Hamilton, which surprised many, and will certainly aid a possible McLaren victory.

Joining Fernando on the second row is Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, the Brazilian looks to be running more fuel than his Ferrari team mate Kimi Räikkönen, and both the McLaren’s.

BMW driver Robert Kubica and Toyota’s Ralf Schumacher sealed off the third row of the grid, both over half a second behind the pace setting McLaren of Lewis Hamilton.
