With better conditions on track at Silverstone on Wednesday McLaren were unable to retain their spot at the top of the timesheets from Tuesday. The team concentrated on tyre work for the British GP testing different set ups and compounds during the day.
With Kimi joining Juan Pablo at the Northamptonshire track the duo set the fourth and fifth fastest times - Juan Pablo over a tenth faster than his Finnish team mate, who's day was cut short after a hydraulic problem.
The unstoppable Renaults were fastest on the day, McLaren bound Alonso over three tenths faster than his team mate Fisichella, the yellow and blue pair being the only people to break the 1m18s barrier.
The busiest man on the day, as seems to be a recurring pattern was Jenson Button with his Honda team completing 245 laps.
