Margetson fails to save contract offer...

Today Huddersfield annouced that they have withdrawn their contract offer to keeper Martyn Margetson. This withdrawal is due to town needing a new manager and is not permanent.

Huddersfield Town have announced today that they have withdrawn the contract offer to Town keeper Martyn Margetson, although it is not being seen as a permanent withdrawal.

The partial withdrawal is due to the immanent announcement of the new Town manager.


Town director Paul Haigh said earlier this today, “We are expecting to announce the new manager this coming Monday and I, and the rest of the board, believe that it would be prudent to negotiate a contract with Martyn with the participation of the new manager.


“I am very disappointed that negotiations have not been resolved with Martyn and that we have had to withdraw our offer. I have been working hard over the past 3 weeks to bring this to a mutually beneficial conclusion but, in light of recent events, we thought it only proper to withdraw the offer.”


Town have been in contract negotiations with 31 year old Margetson since Town announced its retained list in mid May. He is the last of 3 players, including Delroy Facey and Kevin Gray who Town stated they would like to hang on to.


Margetson has always made it very clear that he wished to stay at Town once his contract expires at the end of this month – this will now be a matter for the new manager as well as the Margetson and the board.
