LANCASTER CITY 3 - 1 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
Mick's unbeaten pre-season run came to an end yesterday with a disappointing performance and three goals in the wrong net. The players treated the ball like it was a live grenade in the second half but we dominated in the first. Unfortunately, an early second half goal from Lancaster knocked the stuffing out of Town and from there started our demise.
Town had a fresh and confident start in which new centre-back, Eddie Youds, headed home from a Kenny Irons corner after just 5 minutes, this is going to be easy! We thought.
After the goal, Town pressed further in which they had their best chance of the game. Danny Schofield crossed from the right-wing and found Booth whose vicious right-foot strike was denied by the dark shape of the post.
Lancaster's equalizer came in a period which Town were dominating. Against the run of play, Lancaster gained the ball and Brian Welch hit a shot that was just "too hot to handle" for loan keeper Scott Bevan.
The home side increased their lead in the form of striker Chris Bennet. Early in the second half, Bennet's shot rattled the post and he re-gathered the loose ball. Town's defender's stood like lemon's as they watched Bennet hammer home they rebound. All in all a sloppy goal.
On 67, Scott Bevan, Town's on-loan keeper, brought down Chris Bennet in the box - guess what happened next? The defensive mix-up between Nat Brown and the keeper let Bennet through with the ball at his feet. Bevan then, rather despairingly, threw himself and Bennet's feet and missed the ball. The referee pointed to the spot and Gerry Atkinson slotted home a coolly taken penalty.
