Robins versus Canaries in Worthington cup!

The 1st domestic cup draw of the season has taken place and it has dished up a tasty match for Cheltenham. See who Cheltenham have drawn in the 1st round of the Worthington Cup

Cheltenham Town have got one of the hardest draws possible at this stage of the Worthington cup. The robins will travel to East Anglia to play 1st Division Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Norwich were a penalty shoot out away from reaching the Premiership but were beaten in Cardiff by Birmingham City in the division 1 play off final.

Cheltenham have played Norwich before in this competition. This is when the competition was played over 2 legs. The robins lost 2-0 at Carrow Road and in the return leg won 2-1 after extra time at Whaddon Road. Current Leicester player Lee Marshall scoring the aggregate winner in extra time.

The match will be played to a finish at Carrow Road so will go to Extra time and penalties if necessary.

Cheltenham have only played in the Worthington cup on 3 previous occasions. The Norwich game described above, against Watford over two legs the Robins drew 0-0 at Vicarage Road before being outclasses at Whaddon road losing 3-0, Heidar Helgusson amongst the scorers.

Last season saw Cheltenham travel down the motorway to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City over 1 leg. Town lost 2-1 on the night but the game will be best remembered for a Neil Grayson wonder goal from over 40 yards.

With the current financial situation the Directors couldnt have asked for a better match - away to a big division 1 club, but as a fan i want my team to go as far in each competition as they can. My heart in this game says Cheltenham but my head (and my pocket if I was a betting man) says Norwich.
