Paul Brayson signs 2 year deal with Robins

Cheltenham manager Graham Allner made his 1st signing as Cheltenham Town boss when he secured the signiture of striker Paul Brayson. The ex Newcastle front man had been plying his trade with fellow division 2 team Cardiff City but was found surplus to requirements. He has signed on a free transfer and has put pen to paper on a 2 year deal.

Brayson, who will turn 25 in September, is a diminutive striker standing at only 5"4 but has bags of pace and an eye for goal. In total for the Bluebirds he mayed 41 appearances and 34 sub appearences scoring 18 goals in his time there. With a number of top strikers at the club - Rob Earnshaw, Peter Thorne, Andy Campbell, Gavin Gordan and Leo Fortune-West just to name 5! - Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence had to trim his squad down and Paul Brayson was one of the players to go along with fellow forward Kevin Nugent who went to Colchester late last season.

The news has gone down well with Cheltenham fans who are excited of the prospect of signing a young player with potential to develop into a star for the club. Quite where he will play is another matter. If fit many people see the "Little and Large" partnership of Alsop and Naylor starting up front but we could incorporate Brayson in the team if we reverted to a 4-3-3 formation.

There is no doubt this is one of the major signings in the clubs history and Brayson will play his 1st game for the club on Saturday in a pre-season friendly against Walsall at Whaddon Road.
