United Duo Join On Loan

Swansea City have completed the loan signings of Manchester United duo Alan Tate and Daniel Nardiello. Centre Back Tate returns to the Vetch for his second loan spell at the club, while Nardiello joins having scored 12 goals for Man Utd reserves already this season.

Last season, 21 year-old Tate played 27 times for the Swans and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Football League with some fine displays at centre back.

This season the Swans have struggled in defence, conceding 20 goals from 15 games this season. A lack of defensive cover has been clear, with Izzy Iriekpen the only available natural central defender for last Tuesday's game with Cambridge.

Nardiello, meanwhile joins just at the right time as Lee Trundle has been ruled out for 6-8 weeks. The fans favourite had a scan that revealed damage to cartilage as well as ligaments in his knee.

But the goal machine now looks to have an able replacement in the shape of United's Nardiello. The 21 year old, who could choose between Wales and England at international level, has netted 12 times already for Manchester United reserves this season.

A major pull factor to the Vetch in Nardiello's case may have been the fact that his father played in the same Wales side as Swans Director of Football, Brian Flynn.

"I felt we needed a striker and I'm delighted that Daniel has agreed to sign for us," Flynn told BBC Sport.

"He's an out and out goalscorer, he's quick and direct. He's scored 12 goals for Manchester United reserves already this season.

"He's coming to us to gain Football League experience and I know if we can give him the chances he will score goals."

"If we can influence Daniel in his decision to select a country then we'll do our best."

"Sir Alex knows if the players come to us they will hopefully go back to Manchester improved players.

"They'll gain experience playing in the Football League and so that's why I think the relationship is so strong."

He added: "Their is an option to extend the initial loan period with both players and I'd be delighted if we could do that because I'm certain both players will do well for us."
