Curtis Wins First Game In Temporary Charge

Although not quite at their best the Swans looked to have more clues of how to break the opposition down with two wide men rather than one.

The team lined up in a 4-4-2 formation.  Roger Freestone was reinstated in goal, while the back four consisted of Howard, Tate, Stuart Jones and Byrne.  Andy Robinson occupied the left wing with Stuart Roberts on the other side.  Leon Britton and Roberto Martinez started in midfield.

Paul Connor was joined by Kevin Nugent up front with the returning Lee Trundle taking up a place amongst the substitutes.

Scunthorpe struck first after a mix up between Alan Tate and Stuart Jones in central defence gifted Cleveland Taylor a shot at goal which was too good for the dive of Roger Freestone.

Five minuets before half time, the Swans were level thanks to a penalty from Andy Robinson.  Paul Connor was fouled when trying to reach a Stuart Roberts cross inside the box.  Scunthorpe goalkeeper, Tom Evans dived the right way but the penalty was placed out of his reach.

Then just two minutes after half time the Swans took the lead.  Kevin Nugent placed a powerful diving header into the bottom corner after good build up play between Stuart Roberts and Leon Britton down the right wing.

The Swans put some distance between them and the Iron on 61 minutes when Paul Connor scored his first goal for the club.  Lee Trundle, just on as a sub distracted the keeper before the ball fell to Connor who was only too happy to tap the ball home.

The score was 4-1 nine minutes later, Paul Connor again the scorer, Lee Trundle again provider.  A superb through ball by former Wrexham man, Trundle found Connor's intelligent run.  The £35,000 signing from Rochdale rounded the goalkeeper well before sliding the ball home.

Scunthorpe still had one more goal in them though.  Cleveland Taylor scored his second of the match to make it 4-2 from a corner.  There was confusion over whether the referee had given the goal or a Swansea free-kick amongst the crowd after Swans keeper Roger Freestone was bundled over.

A good win for Alan Curtis in his first game in temporary charge then.  We have a promising strike partnership of Connor and Trundle on our hands, worth noting that they are both signings of Brian Flynn.  They linked up well especially for our fourth goal and I look forward to seeing the pair play together more often.
