Darren Gough is convinced he can still do a job for England at Test level, 18 months after fears his career was over.

Darren Gough is convinced he can
still do a job for England at Test level, 18 months after fears his career
was over. The Yorkshire paceman returned to action last week with a
six-wicket haul and there has already been contact from the England set-up
to inquire about his availability. "All it is for me is that I just want to play," Gough said. "I'm
enjoying my cricket. Obviously I'm not retiring from any of it at this
moment in time and I want to play for England again.'' He added: "I want to get my England contract back and it's something
I've worked at. I've worked really hard. They're watching me and they know
if I'm bowling anything like I can, I have no doubt that I will be invited
back into the fold. I have no doubt about that. "But it's not going to be easy. I've got to work hard. I've not bowled
in competitive cricket for a long, long time and I'm just happy to be
playing at the minute, happy to be playing today, happy to be playing next
week and take every week as it comes. "You never know, I might wake up in two weeks' time and I can hardly
walk and it might be time then to walk away. "But at this moment in time, I'm full of happiness and I'm just looking
forward to playing every game." He told BBC Radio Five Live: "I'm happy with the way I'm bowling, I'm
happy with my fitness, I'm happy with the way I'm batting - all I can do
is perform.''
