Jacques Kallis led South Africa
to an easy six-wicket win over England in the NatWest Series match at Old
Trafford. Kallis remained unbeaten but 18 runs short of what would have been his
third successive hundred in this triangular tournament which is now led by
his team on 11 points, to England's 10 and Zimbabwe's nine. Kallis hit five fours and one six in an unruffled 105-ball innings
which shut out the hosts. South Africa surpassed a target of 223 for seven with almost three
overs to spare, thanks largely to an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 145
between Kallis and Jacques Rudolph (71not out). The two Jacques coasted home under lights after England had been
restricted to a slightly under-par total on a good pitch, despite
hard-working half-centuries from Marcus Trescothick (60) and Anthony
McGrath (52) who combined for a third-wicket stand of 114.
