Herschelle Gibbs and Graeme Smith regained their form as South Africa cruised to a nine wicket victory over Zimbabwe with 15.4 overs to spare in a NatWest Series encounter at Cardiff.

Smith regained their form as South Africa cruised to a nine wicket victory
over Zimbabwe with 15.4 overs to spare in a NatWest Series encounter at
Cardiff. The openers ensured the Proteas made light of their modest 175 target
as they took a big step forward in ensuring their place in the final at
Lord's on July 12. The duo had managed just 55 runs between them in six previous innings
in the tournament and they certainly rode their luck in the early stages
against new-ball bowler Heath Streak. They plundered 154 off just 31 overs before Smith, having made 58 off
98 balls with nine fours, provided Sean Ervine with a consolation wicket. Gibbs was the more aggressive and he saw South Africa home in the 35th
over with an unbeaten 93 from 97 balls with two sixes and 12 fours.
