Adams' Best Skittles Kent

Adams' bowling figures were the best ever by a South African bowler on tour in England.

Kent were set 334 to win in two sessions and 20 minutes from a minimum of 67 overs.

It was a tall order but Kent made a lively start with Michael Carberry and Robert Key putting on 72 for the first wicket with Key scoring at the rate of a run a ball.

Key, who missed out on selection for the England Test squad, played an attractive innings of 49 including nine boundaries.

Ed Smith, delighted to be named in the England squad, had a brief but aggressive knock of 27 from only 21 balls.

Having survived a confident appeal for a catch behind off Adams from the first ball he received, he went on to strike six boundaries, four of which were in Adams' next over which conceded 18.

Having been hit for 33 in three overs, Adams was replaced by Monde Zondeki for his second spell.

He, too, proved to be expensive with the first over going for 15 as Carberry picked up the runs with stylish left handed strokes, one of which was a lovely straight drive for four which took him to 47.

Carberry reached his fourth first class half century for Kent with a stylish square drive to point.

Meanwhile, the tourists had taken the wicket of Smith when Robin Peterson took an overhead return catch from a leading edge.

Adams was brought back for a remarkable second spell. He bowled Matthew Banes (24) around his legs with the total on 185 and a run later he took Kent's fourth wicket having Carberry caught at short leg by Boeta Dippenaar for 75 from 146 balls, 12 of which were hit to the boundary.

Adams trapped Geraint Jones (6) leg before, then took a catch off his own bowling to dismiss James Tredwell (4) and had Rob Ferley (4) caught at silly point to reduce Kent to 208 for seven.

Twenty runs later the eighth wicket fell with Martin Saggers (1) caught at slip off Adams and the last two went - on 232 - in successive balls for the left arm spinner to complete an astonishing 87-ball spell of eight wickets for 29.
