James Kirtley and Ed Smith have been handed their England debuts in the third npower Test against South Africa at Trent Bridge.

James Kirtley and Ed Smith have
been handed their England debuts in the third npower Test against South
Africa at Trent Bridge. Sussex seamer Kirtley was finally given his chance after being named in
every Test squad this summer without taking the field. He ousted Lancashire's Glen Chapple as the final seamer in the side. Kirtley takes his place in an attack alongside James Anderson, Steve
Harmison, all-rounder Andrew Flintoff and Ashley Giles. Giles is likely to be supported by England skipper Michael Vaughan, who
has recovered from the back strain which prevented him from bowling during
the Lord's Test. Kent batsman Smith was given his first chance for England having scored
six centuries at county level this summer. He replaces Yorkshire's Anthony McGrath, who was overlooked for this
Test.
