Kabir Hoping For Test Call

Kabir was part of England's squad for the NatWest Series last month but was only selected for one match - against Zimbabwe at Headingley - and that was abandoned before he could bat or bowl.

Now he has been called into the plans for the fourth Test with South Africa at Headingley on Thursday after a rich vein of form for Worcestershire.

Since returning to his county, Kabir has taken eight wickets in an innings twice, against Derbyshire and Yorkshire, and has 57 first-class victims in total this season.

Kabir said: "I've always wanted to play for England. The Academy was a great learning experience in the winter and to play in a warm up match against a strong Australian side was brilliant.

"Andy Caddick was at the other end and that was great because you look up to guys like him and Darren Gough, who also was a help to me in the winter.

"It was a good experience to be part of the England one-day squad this summer. It was a bit frustrating not playing but good experience.

"When I got a game it rained, which was disappointing, and I went back to Worcestershire not having bowled or batted in a game for quite awhile.

"I bowled a lot in the nets but that's different to being out in the middle.

"I could understand why I didn't get a game. England had a winning side and were playing well so why change it?

"But hopefully this next time I might get a few chances and it would be great to play in a Test match.

"I hadn't got any goals like that. I just wanted to get through the season injury free and was hoping for the best.

"I've had big injury problems in the past, like a stress fracture of the back which meant I had to remodel my action totally, so being fit for these last two years has been good for me."
