Kirtley Could Yet Tour

The selectors are poised to name a replacement this week for 21-year-old Anderson, who has been withdrawn from the Test part of the Bangladesh tour after sustaining a problem in his left knee.

The selectors are hopeful he will be fit enough to play the first of three one-day internationals in Chittagong on November 7.

It leaves several candidates on stand-by waiting for the call from chairman of selectors David Graveney, who will consult with his fellow selectors over the next few days before England make their announcement later this week.

Sussex's James Kirtley is the favourite after surprisingly being overlooked for the Test squad and only included in the one-day party.

Richard Johnson of Somerset will also come into consideration even though his summer was also plagued by knee injuries.

Worcestershire's Kabir Ali could also come into contention after a successful season at county level despite failing to impress in his only Test at Headingley this summer.

And Surrey's Martin Bicknell will be discussed after a successful return in the final two Tests - although at 34 his call-up may be regarded as a backward step.
