YIDOB’S GUIDE TO PREMIERSHIP GAMES 22/23 AUGUST 2006 An interesting start to the Premiership season, with some strange results helping the bookies to get off to a profitable start. Plenty of time to take our revenge though!
WATFORD V WEST HAM (Tuesday KO 19:45)
Home – 8/5 Draw – 11/5 Away 8/5
A hard luck story start for Boothroyd’s Watford with one of the strangest penalty decisions I’ve ever seen. The ref decided that Chris Powell’s forehead is part of his arm! Anyway, another tough game for Watford, against West Ham who will be upbeat after a fine win against London rivals Charlton at the weekend. Never the less, I think Watford backed by a full house at the Vicarage will get something from this game.

TOTTENHAM V SHEFFIELD UNITED (Tuesday KO 20:00)
Home – 4/9 Draw – 11/4 Away – 7/1
A very disappointing start for Spurs at the Reebok on Saturday. A Tottenham side that looked clueless without Carrick and Keane pulling the strings. Hopefully Keane will return in place of Defoe, but it seems the centre of midfield looks a bigger problem. A great point for Sheffield United on Saturday against the mighty Liverpool, will have done their confidence no harm whatsoever. Maybe my heart is ruling my head, but I think Tottenham will take this by the odd goal.

ASTON VILLA V READING (Wednesday KO 19:45)
Home – 10/11 Draw – 9/4 Away 3/1
Both teams will be delighted with their respective starts to the 2006/07 season. Villa getting a well deserved draw at The Emirates Stadium, and Reading coming from 2-0 down to beat Southgate’s Boro 3-2. I think Reading will struggle away from the Madjeski this season, and this looks a banker home win.

MANCHESTER CITY V PORTSMOUTH (Wednesday KO 19:45)
Home – 11/10 Draw – 9/4 Away – 23/10
I thought Man City looked poor against the Champions Chelsea yesterday, but I suppose they can make any team look poor. A great win for Pompey on Saturday against a Blackburn side that finished the game with 9 men. Stuart Pearce won’t of been happy after yesterday’s display, and I’m sure a rocket from him will have his team up for what looks like an easy ish opportunity to get a home win under the belt for the 2006/07 season at the first time of asking.

BLACKBURN V EVERTON (Wednesday KO 20:00)
Home – 6/5 Draw – 11/5 Away – 11/5
Everton were lucky to beat Watford on Saturday with the Referee more or less guiding them to victory. Mark Hughes can’t have been happy with his teams display against Portsmouth, added to the fact that two of his defenders saw red. I think Everton will struggle this season, and I expect Blackburn to be up there challenging for a European place come the end of the season.

CHARLTON V MANCHESTER UNITED (KO 20:00)
Home – 5/1 Draw – 5/2 Away – 4/7
Charlton disappointed on Saturday, and United were very impressive. I can only see one outcome here, even without the suspended duo of Rooney and Scholes.
Recommended Bet: Give Charlton a 1 goal start, and still back Man United to win (Paddy Power currently not offering this bet, but they will later today or tomorrow)

FULHAM V BOLTON (Wednesday KO 20:00)
Home – 7/5 Draw – 9/5 Away – 11/5
Two sides that are hard to predict in my opinion. Bolton weren’t that impressive on Saturday, it was simply that Spurs were bad. Fulham were blown away by a rampant Manchester United, but I think quite a few teams will face the same treatment at OT this season. A tough one to call.

MIDDLESBROUGH V CHELSEA (Wednesday KO 20:00)
Home – 7/1 Drawn – 11/4 Away 4/9
It was all looking good for Southgate’s Boro on Saturday before three Reading goals robbed Boro of a single point from their long trip south. Champions Chelsea didn’t overly impress against Man City yesterday but still came out 3-0 victors. Another comfortable Chelsea win is expected.
Recommended Bet: Drogba to score at any time 6/5
