Spurs - Any which way but down

Well we have had a mixed start to this season with a 2-0 loss to Bolton Wanderers where the football from our perspective was diabolical, to a home game against Sheffield United where a totally different team seemed to turn up and win convincingly against a team who I have tipped to do well for a newly promoted team.

With Jermaine Defoe stating today that he is willing to fight for his place;

"Competition is good for the club - the strikers want to play, score goals and play well. As a forward you want to play in every game possible and if you do get left out it is hard. If the team is doing well you want to be involved and want to score goals. If we were short though we would turn around and say you need more quality players around you. You can't win really. It keeps you on your toes, which is not a bad thing at all. If you get a chance you have just got to take it and make sure you stay in the team. Our squad is really strong and I am happy with it. I hope it leads to another good season for us."

You have got to admire the guys attitude, after all that happened to him and the cruel way that Sven sent him home at the last minute at the start of the World Cup in Germany...I take my hat off to him.

Berbatov has also been saying to rights thing (again) to keep the club and fans in a positive mood;

"The club brought me here to score goals and that's exactly what I want to do, so of course it's great to have scored for Spurs already," said Berbatov. "But now I want to score a lot more."

The guy certainly knows how to be media friendly and says the right thing (I wonder who is coaching him!)

Jermain Jenas: Well he has taken a bit of a battering from the fans since Saturdays defeat to Bolton but I feel that he proved what he is about last night at WHL against Sheffield United.

"Saturday was tough for us at Bolton so it was good to get back to winning ways," said JJ after the game, before reporting that the setting of a quick tempo was very much pre-planned. "We knew Sheffield United would come here and make it difficult for us so we had to get into it quickly and make it hard for them. Not only did we do that, we were brave, got on the ball and created chances. The lads are delighted, we've got the three points on the board and can prepare for the next game now."

This is all excellent positive stuff from 3 of Tottenhams finest and should keep some of the doubters quiet for a while anyway.

A final word about the 1st half performance of our Robbie Keane, absolutely world class!!! he seemed to tail off in the 2nd half but he has not had the same pre-season as a lot of the squad so if the 1st half is anything to go by it will give big Martin Jol a huge selection headache ( but an enjoyable one!!!!)
