Football Fans – Strange creatures aren’t they? And Spurs fans have to rate amongst the strangest. Well that is if you are to believe the so called fans websites and message boards.

Now I have been supporting Spurs as long as I can remember, and I can remember using farthings and half crowns. I can remember Spurs being one of the big glory clubs that everyone talked about. We won doubles and FA cups and European Trophies and had glory nights and players like Jimmy Greaves and Danny Blanchflower. Even when we did away with real money and went to this new fangled decimal stuff (and prices went up) we had players like Chivers and Hoddle and Archibald and we won FA Cups and European Trophies and had glory nights.
Then the money men came into the game and someone (Scholar) who was last heard of taking the once great Nottingham Forest into oblivion came and took over at our once proud club and I’m afraid it’s been downhill ever since. OK, nightclub owner and part time author (remember that awful Hazell) EL Tel teamed up with a sugar daddy and won an FA Cup but that was only because the year ended in a 1. Lets face it, Our once great club has slid downhill faster than Eddy the Eagle and has languished in the laughing stock stakes for a good many years now.
So surely we as fans have a right to be a funny lot? Well yes we would have if there was no way out of this mire the money men have landed Tottering Hotspur in but wait. After a stuttering start, the latest money men at the top seem to have found a solution that might just work. Fair enough, they may have stumbled on this Five year plan of a solution more by accident than design but the once mighty Spurs managed to threaten to break into the exclusive gentlemans club at the top of the Premier League and if they had dined at Claridges instead of some dodgy East End Hotel they may well have. But still they managed to qualify for European Football. The once great club was back and a time for rejoicing amongst the ranks of the loyal followers who had put up with years of dross. A reason to apply for a passport and shout the name of Tottenham Hotspur out loud to any bemused European that would listen.
A new season and a European adventure, a chance to learn and improve and hopefully repeat the feat. Well with four games left and the new adventure nearly over. A semi Final Defeat in one competition to one of the best sides in Europe in one competition, A Quarter Final defeat to last seasons Champions in the other domestic cup and a quarter final defeat in a European competition to the side that won it the season before. And seven points away from having another chance to do it again. These Spurs fans must be delighted after so many seasons of the complete and utter ineptitude that had been served up on a plate for the previous god knows how long.
Is that the attitude of the Spurs fans though? Well the answer to that is a resounding no if you read any of the fans websites. The board are being begged to sell to an American/Russian. The Manager hasn’t got a clue and must be sacked, The players are useless and the fans expect the Champions league on a plate next season or we will never sign anyone better than Johnny Jackson ever again.
