An open letter to the gentleman of the press and media from a genuine Spurs Fan


To the so called journalists who report on events at Tottenham Hotspur,


There is a faction amongst you who constantly report how the Spurs fans are not happy with the current style of football employed by the management team at Tottenham. You mention things like discontent amongst the supporters, the desire of the fans for the team to play attractive attacking football. You talk about the supporters being angry at the current defensive style and supporters wanting changes made.

Please could you explain which supporters these are you are basing these statements on as I have yet to speak to a single Spurs fan that shares the opinion you seem to think we have.

On Saturday, in the hour of our deepest grief you chose to accuse Jaques Santini of disrespect by not speaking to the press. You make out that he has no idea of the great traditions of Tottenham Hotspur and that he does not understand what Bill Nicholson means to Spurs Fans. You choose to report that Spurs fans are angry about this refusal to speak to the press.

Once again I have yet to find a Spurs fan that shares this image that you seek to conjure up. Try speaking to us when you want to give supporter reaction before inventing a situation that does not exist.

When Jaques Santini did choose to release a statement you chose to pick a couple of words for your headlines to give the impression that Santini is not the right man for Tottenham. Headlines such as Santini is not worthy.

I would like to remind you that on the day Bill Nicholson took over as manger of Tottenham Hotspur his new side defeated Everton 10-4 and one of the things Bill thought immediately after that game was "I must sort out the defence". I suspect that under similar circumstances Bill may have done the same thing as Santini did on Saturday and put the Club and team performance before anything else.

For many years now there seems to have be an element within the Press/media that is intent on sniping at the great name of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and we as Season Ticket Holders, Members and supporters have had enough.

At this, the time of our greatest loss - just stick to reporting the facts and dont invent our opinions for us.
