Have Spurs made a bad mistake?

I have been impressed with the current transfers, but I fail to see the reason why the club sold Freddie Kanoute. Kanoute had a great season, he seems more mature and he plays for the team.

He was happy to stay at Tottenham and fight for his place, and I don't think may other players of his calibre would accept a possible role on the bench. He would fight for his place with Mido. No wonder that better clubs in Spain in England showed much interest. I must say I had put a big trust on our four forwarders, but now the club seems to be in a difficult situation. And there is simply is no logical explanation why the club got rid of Kanoute. Surely we got decent money, but we definitely needed him.

The club has to rely on Mido to be Defoes partner. And we are not in the position to cope with bans, lack of form or injuries. Now we stand to lose him for 3 matches, hopefully he will not get injured this season, but if he does we have the ineffective partnership of Defoe and Keane.

So why did the club sell Kanoute? Is it because Levy disliked his decision of leaving for Mali, and not going on the end of season trip. Or was Jol maybe so over confident of signing Kuyt, that he decided to say goodbye to Kanoute.

Spurs does not seem to have much change of beating the transfer deadline. Seems like the Lee (or is it Li) transfer will go through, and maybe they are still trying to snatch Jenas. No change Chelsea would sell Carlton Cole to Spurs, I guess they would rather give him away to some other clubs. And 2 million isn't much of an offer for Englands u21 striker. No move for Lucarelli or Kuyt either. I guess both Levy and Jol are sweating, and regretting their decision to sell Kanoute.
