As this season draws to a fantastic conclusion, we will agree that this has been the best year for Spurs in what’s been a rollercoaster ride to the top of the table. There have been a few times this season where the football has suffered for the sake of a result or even entertainment.

As a diehard Spurs fan that always sits a little awkward with me as my heart rules me head and not the other way round. I always want us to play other teams off the park with the kind of ‘sexy’ football you will find Ruud Gullet fantasising himself over, but at times we have to grind out results. This is why Im always baffled to why we have played and drawn against teams like Sunderland at home and conceded two goals away, both games I thought were below our best performances and whilst everyone can have a bad day at the office - points from games like this could of sealed a Champions League spot last month.

Ok this is a big issue as far as I’m concerned and bemoaning points lost is one thing but the style of which they have been dropped is another. You could say that well we lost with style against Manchester United and Chelsea both games we should of got something from had the non English defenders done their jobs as they are expected to.

Does the ‘Tottenham Way’ prevent fans such as myself from appreciating the moment and points gained from poor matches? Had the Bolton game come half way through the season would of our reactions, including my own, to the result of been any different? Not many people spoke about winning the way we did but were happy with the 3 points, and understandably so.

Once the dust had settled and I watched the game on TV the next day I noticed for much of the game we played sideways and didn’t have much of the ball in midfield for long spells of the match, against a team, on paper at least, we should of won with the kind of spring in our step which will mean business both in the league and hopefully the Champions League next season.

I really hope that Jol has a few names on his wanted list that will help us play the football we were all brought up on and bring the ‘traditional’ football Jol spoke about when he took over at the helm. Thus far we haven’t seen too much of it, come on Jol show us you know about tradition, it would make me a very happy Spurs fan.
