Diamonds look to avenge 4-1 league defeat

Rushden and Diamonds return to the Abbey Stadium tonight, eager to avenge their heaviest defeat of the season against Cambridge United.

At the end of August Diamonds travelled with some optimism, hoping to remain top of the league, but were turned over comprehensively by a strong Cambridge side. Tonight, not as much is at stake but the Diamonds will want to progress past the first stage of the LDV Vans Trophy for the first time in their history.

Early indications suggest that manager Brian Talbot will field a team including a mixture of reserve and first team players. Andy Tillson could get the opportunity to redeem himself after being dropped due to defensive mistakes in the earlier league encounter.

Cambridge will aim to make an impact on the competition, like last season, and are expected to be at full strength.
