Cobblers Caught Cold in Four-Nil Blitz!

Chesterfield entertained the cobblers at home and Northampton lived up to their nickname because they were real cobblers! Chesterfield maintained a clean sheet for the 2nd game running and produced another win 3rd game running. The 4-0 win over Northampton has took us up to 6th in the league!

A small support of Cobblers fans made the trip down to Saltergate to see their team well and truly beaten by Chesterfield. It was a magnificent performance just like the one when we beat the Stags 2-0 last Saturday. Northampton were not that bad but Chesterfield out-played and out-classed them. Every area the Spireites dominated and held Northampton out of the game throughout.

Not long ago everyone was calling for Rushbury to go but now he’s the towns hero!! Get that man a drink!!

The home support didn’t have to wait long for the first goal scored by Glyn Hurst, a well timed strike saw the Northampton goalie well and truly beaten on the 21st minute to put Chesterfield 1-0 up! A good build up right from the back and an even better goal. It is the first time in ages that Chesterfield have gone one-nil up and not sat back. They stayed focus and didn’t let Northampton get into the game, which is a key essential if we are to survive at this level!

Chesterfield doubled the lead 7 minutes later with a superb goal from Mark Hudson and his first league goal for the Spireites! And a well took chance saw him get a well deserved goal! Gareth Davies again impressed and his attitude and skill gets better and better the more he plays! So 2-0 up at this point surely things couldn’t get much better than this- they did!

Brandon another talented individual also managed to get his name on the score-sheet, which was nice! Not the best of performances by him but still one to be proud of. Reevesy got the usual chants from the home support, an interesting fact for you all now, every time Reeves has been in the starting line up and played Chesterfield have won! Let’s hope this continues!

On the 42nd minute Chesterfield went further infront thanks to Chris Brandon who’s elegant shot took Chesterfield 3-0 up! It was a case of damage limitation now for Northampton Town as Chesterfield looked threatening every time they got the ball!

So halftime approached and what a feeling after all, its not every day Chesterfield are 3-0 up already and the first half has only just been played. It was a shame that Nathan Abbey didn’t make a first team appearance for the Cobblers that would have been very interesting to say the least! He was being his usual arrogant self as the Cobblers managed decided to get Abbey warming up what a fatal mistake! With chants like “greedy, greedy *******” and “Your **** and you know you are” and not forgetting “Abbey what’s the score, Abbey, Abbey what’s the score” where he responded by displaying 2-0 with his fingers!

So the lads come out onto the pitch to a standing ovation from the Kop, with the Compton Street Side looking very nice and professional!

None of the Northampton Town following made much noise but I don’t think you would if you was getting thrashed by this point!

Northampton did try to get back into the game at one point but it was a case of too little too late and however hard they tried they just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. One chance saw a clearance off of the line, I mean just how unlucky can you get? But I’m not complaining because we kept another clean sheet!

Then right into stoppage time Hurst shone again as he got Chesterfield’s 4th and final goal of the evening dead on the 90th minute! A magnificent strike from a magnificent striker…need I say more?

Another win, another three points, another clean sheet, and anotherset of happy customers! Not one home fan went home disappointed but I bet every single Northampton fan went home not too pleased after they team got demolished!
