Citizen's stun Sartid

A spirited Bangor City deservedly beat Yugoslavian giants FK Sartid 1-0 at the Racecourse Ground tonight. The winning goal was ironically scored by ex-Wrexham striker Paul Roberts

K Sartid, who were big favourites to win comfartably, couldn't break down a resolute Bangor defence, and were restricted to only a few long range efforts.

Bangor manager, Peter Davenport was unsurprisingly delighted with the result and told BBC Wales "It's a fantastic night, the players were absolutely tremendous. Every single one of them played their part and I can't praise them highly enough - they were just tremendous all night.

The winning goal was scored in the 69th minute, and was an excellent left footed drive by Paul Roberts and gave the Sartid 'keeper no chance. "Paul will work all day for you and he worked his socks off tonight", said Davenport."He got a bit of cramp at the end and had to come off but he scored a great goal and we've got a chance now in the second leg."

It was far from a one man show however, with every player showing 100% commitment and working for each other. The result is even more impressive when you consider that Bangor have not started their domestic season yet, whilst their opponents season began several weeks ago.

Sartid manager, Jovica Skora, was quick to warn Bangor that they would proove a tougher test in the return leg in a fortnight's time. "I thought my players under estimated Bangor and they paid the price," the 55-year-old told uefa.com "I'm sure it will be a different game next time and we fully expect to go through."

The 2nd leg is sure to be tough, but at least City have a lead to defend and will always have the memory of tonight's amazing win at Wrexham

Bangor's best three

Man of the Match- Kenny Burgess- the left winger was lively throughout and tore apart the opponents defence,which included Yugoslavian internationals, famed for their strength at the back. Also set up Paul Roberts for the winning goal. Watch out for him in the LofW this season, and hopefully there's more to come in Europe.

2- Owain Tudor Jones- The 17 year old was a rock at the back and was not scared of pushing forward. Sure to go on to greater things, with Aston Villa already tracking the youngster.

3- Paul Roberts- Took his goal extremely well, however he was strong througtout and prooved to be a useful targetman despite some rough treatment from the visitors!
