CPD Porthmadog Promoted

CPD Porthmadog have won promotion back to the Welsh Premier after being crowned Cymru Alliance champions today. After a 3-2 victory over Buckley, Port can prepare for their first season back at the top of the pyramid since they were relegated at the end of 1997-98 season.

However, Porthmadog have been made to sweat over their promotion despite having had a healthy lead over 2nd placed Llandudno for a number of weeks.

The club faced an FAW hearing on Thursday, over whether they had played goalkeeper Richard Harvey without international clearance. Harvey, who was already registered with English 3rd division club Macclesfield Town, had also turned out for Llangefni, Cemaes and Wrexham Reserves this season alone! There was talk of a possible 21 point deduction for the North-West Wales club, however they received just a £250 fine, after ex-Welsh Football Association boss Alun Evans found Port only 'technically guilty', much to the relief of their substantial fanbase

So, congratulations to the players, management and fans of Porthmadog, I'm sure they'll be a welcome addition to the league come August.
