Barry Town chairman, John Fashanu is competing in ITV 1's reality show 'I'm a celebrity...get me out of here!'. In our first 'Fash-Watch', we learn of Fash's penchant for tweezers and classic one-liners. And yes, Barry get a mention...
ITV 1's second version of 'I'm a Celebrity...get me out of here' saw Barry Town chairman John Fashanu, pitted against 9 other D-list celebrities.
Tonight's inaugral programme was so slow starting, I considered packing this in before I'd even wrote my first installment of 'Fash-watch'. The only highlight from the first part of this 90-minute marathon show was Fash's photo shoot one-liner - 'I'm not scared of snakes...I'm just apprehensive'. Yeah right.
The first commercial break was a welcome distraction from the 'loveable Geordies' Ant and Dec. In the second part we learn that Fash's two 'luxury items' would be a razor and a pair of tweezers. Worrying. But that wasn't all our famous friend tried to smuggle in - his attempts to smuggle a rucksack full of crisps was rather futile to say the least.
Once in the jungle Fash was surprisingly elected leader of the hapless group. They surely would have re-thought their decision if they'd heard Fash's second great one-liner 'I can see we're in the jungle'. No shit sherlock.
As a reward for being selected leader, his fellow celebrities voted him to be first to face the terrifying 'Bush tukka trial'. As John set off for his challenge he was urged on by cries of 'Think Barry Town' and 'Do it for Barry'. Amazing. Not even 24 hours into the adventure and Barry have already received a plug, and not even off Fash. Whatever next?
I knew the show had really begun when I saw Fash flinch as he put on his pair of 'creta pants' in which he would insert various breeds of creepy crawlies. Fash managed to drop 7 different species, ranging from Crayfish to Golian Stick Insects, down into his nether regions before he screamed the infamous 'Im a celebrity...get me out of here' line. Highly commendable indeed. Back at camp Fash confirmed that he did worry for his 'old man', whilst being slapped on the back for winning 7 meals for the group.
The final part of the show failed to live up to the challenge climax, but there was time for another classic one-liner off the Welsh Premier's most famous chairman. After being summoned to return all smuggled items he hilariously told the camera, and Britain, that amongst the contraband items was 'lip balm for lips'. Maybe he was just trying to keep us awake, or is genuinley a member of the 'society for stating the blatantly obvious'. Either way it should keep us awake for the next fortnight, and at the moment it's looking pretty good for Mr Fash.
