Connah's Quay Nomads midfielder Gareth Owen believes the Deesiders have what it takes to win the Welsh Premier. The new signing is thrilled to be playing for his home town club, and following in his father's footsteps.

Connah's Quay Nomads signing, Gareth Owen, believes his new
club have what it takes to capture the Welsh Premier title
this season
In an
interview with the 'Evening Leader' Owen enthuses about how
thrilled he is to be following in the footsteps of his
childhood heroes and his father Don, who captained the
Deesiders to the Welsh Cup in 1952.
Owen, 31
reveals that he turned down offers from Conference club Leigh
RMI and Premier rivals Bangor City , who are looking to
replace Simon Davies, to join his hometown club. There was
even an offer to take his first steps into management, with
Unibond First Division outfit Ossett Town offering him their
vacant assistant manager position. Despite being 'flattered'
by this offer Owen explained "I felt that it would have
been a step too far for me at the moment."
"For me there
is a lot of sentiment involved." said the former Wales
'B' International. "At 11 years-old I would go to watch
them at the Halfway. I had 12 great years at Wrexham, but
Nomads were my first love and the club I supported as a
boy."
Owen has
now set his sights on winning the Welsh Premier. "As a
club we have got to aim for the sky and hit the ceiling. There
is no point in me or any of the other lads being here if we
don't believe that we can win the league this season."
With an attitude like this, it's obvious why Nomads manager
Nev Powell was so pleased to bring Gareth back to the Deeside
Stadium.
