Bangor Get Green Light For New Ground

Bangor City have gained planning permission for a new ground at Nantporth. The Citizens are in desperate need to move from their Farrar Road home which has suffered from a lack of investment in recent years. However some fans are not too happy with the new site...

PLANS PASSED - BUT MIXED REACTIONS FROM CITY FANS

Bangor
City have been granted planning permission for a new ground at
Nantporth.
Despite
planning officers and local residents strongly recommending
the council to refuse planning permission, Gwynedd County
Councillors voted by a large majority to approve the new site.
Councillor Eddie Dogan told BBC Sport "All the other
options considered were outside the boundaries of Bangor and
in a city which is strapped for land, the George site is the
only option."
 The
'Citizens' have played at Farrar Road (pictured) since the
1920's, and have been looking to relocate for some time. Dogan
explained "The facilities at Farrar Road are very poor
and the stands are in a bad state. The time has come to look
to the future, not just for the club, but for the area. With
the facilities these plans offer this will be of benefit to
the whole community."
The new stadium off
Holyhead Road is located on the banks of the Menai Strait. The
plans include a 800 seater main stand, social club and eight
floodlight columns. However, some Bangor fans have expressed
their concerns over the site's lack of space for future
development.
Bangor
Chairman Ken Jones was delighted by the news. "We need
this move to develop Bangor City Football Club. We are a top
three League of Wales side and we regularly play in Europe.
But in comparison with other European teams we play, our
facilities are shocking"
