  Lightning struck twice for
CPD Porthmadog at
Plaskynaston Lane tonight, after falling to a second 3-0
defeat in the space of a fortnight to in-form Cefn Druids.
The 'Ancients' were always in control against a despondent
looking Porthmadog team, who are quickly falling down the
table after a good start to their first season back in the top
flight.
The home side opened the scoring rather fortuitously after
6 minutes, when Aden Shannon's shot bounced off keeper
McGuigan, back into his path and the ex-Christleton striker
was left with an easy tap in.
The game quickly turned into a midfield battle, with the home
side always looking the more comfortable in possession.
However, it was not until the half hour mark that the home
side could add to their tally, and Aden Shannon was once again
gifted a simple tap in, when a Port defenders' intended pass
back amazingly rebounded off the face of the bar straight to
the feet of Druids' top scorer, who made no mistake from 5
yards.
The home side were by now clearly full of
confidence, and Aden Shannon had several more chances well
saved by the over-worked McGuigan, and Port manager Viv
Williams must have been relieved to hear the sound of the half
time whistle.
 The
start of the second half saw a slight improvement from the
visitors, but they never looked likely to break down a solid
Druids' defence, captained superbly by veteran Aled Rowlands.
Port were always limited to just a few half chances, and
rarely troubled keeper McIntosh.
On 68 minutes, Druids put the game well and truly beyond
Porthmadog's reach with the goal of the game. A swift
counter attack saw Joe Desmoreaux float in a lovely cross to
Nick Parry, and the defender unleashed a rocket right foot
volley into the left corner of McGuigan's net for his first
goal in Welsh Premier League football.
The Ancients were now firmly in control, and played with a
confidence and sharpness that justifies their top 8 position.
Aden Shannon was desperately unlucky not to secure his second
hat-trick of the season 10 minutes later, when having
seemingly rounded the grounded McGuigan, the Port keeper
somehow clutched the ball from the striker's feet to produce
the save of the match.
That proved to be Shannon's last opportunity to secure his
hat-trick a s he made way for young striker Gareth Evans, who
himself nearly added a 4th in the last minute with a bullet
header from the edge of the box that was superbly tipped
around the post by McGuigan.
Druids were good value for their 4th consecutive victory,
whilst Porthmadog were kept out on the pitch for 5 minutes
after the match by distraught manager Viv Williams.
