Dragons Facing Week of Truth

Barry Town are ready to face the club's most important week in their history. The club have already been boosted by the financial backing of local businessman Stuart Lovering, and are now hoping that the club's creditors agree to accept the 100k raised so far.

Barry Town are about to undergo the most important week in the club’s 90-year history.

Having already raised £100,000 thanks to the backing of local businessman, Stuart Lovering, the Dragons now need the club’s creditors to accept the money in place of full repayment.

The creditors meeting will take place at Jenner Park next Wednesday, 10th December when the club’s fate will be decided.

“We hope that the creditors will use their common sense and accept our offer,” said Dr Liz Davies, the club’s chairman.

“Financial mismanagement of the club by previous owners has left in severe difficulty.

“In this way we are trying to pay off as much of the debt as we can.

“By voting to keep us alive, creditors will receive a portion of the money owed to them. Many of them will then benefit from our continued trade as we re-build the club.

“If they refuse our offer then the club will go into liquidation and they will get nothing at all.”

The meeting will take place in the afternoon and will be followed at 7:30pm in the evening by a public meeting in the club where supporters will hopefully have the opportunity to celebrate the survival of Barry Town and discuss the club’s future.

Despite being overshadowed by off-field concerns, Barry Town face a difficult home match against Haverfordwest on Friday, 5th December (kick-off 7:30pm).

The visiting Bluebirds are riding high in the league in fourth position and include former Barry Town Championship winning players Darren Ryan and Colin Loss in their ranks, but Barry boss David Hughes will be aiming for a win.

“We have been very unlucky in recent weeks,” said Hughes, “but we are capable of giving any team a game and if we can show the same commitment that we showed last week at Cefn Druids then there’s no reason why we can’t get a good result.”

Following the match, supporters will have the chance to talk to prospective owner Stuart Lovering in the Social Club about his plans for Barry Town.
