A bet between rival football fans on the Welsh Premier supporters' internet site has raised £200.00 for children's charities in North and South Wales.

Through the www.welsh-premier.co.uk website, supporters of Bangor City and Barry Town challenged each other on which of the rival teams would finish higher in the League. Before Saturday's game at Farrar Road, Barry fans acknowledged defeat - for this season at least - as they presented a cheque to the Charlotte Speddy Appeal.

Six-year old Charlotte from Gerlan, who requires expensive surgery to treat a rare spinal and rib condition, was on hand to accept the cheque - and she and twin brother Thomas also received the gift of club tops from Bangor City FC.

City supporter Nigel Pickavance also handed over a cheque from Bangor fans to Barry's charity - the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice. "A bit of banter between rival fans has led to this great effort, which helps build bridges between our clubs," said Nigel. "It goes to show that City fans certainly have their hearts in the right place."

Barry fan Ian Johnson added, "Although we've lost out this year, we'll soon be back challenging. Whichever team ended up higher in the league, two worthy causes have benefited. This is the second successive week that Barry fans have raised funds for Ty Hafan, as last weekend we played a charity match against Afan Lido supporters."
