The draw for the preliminary and first rounds of the Welsh League Cup have been made, with Rhyl kicking off the defence of their crown with a tough away game against NEWI Cefn Druids. The Lilywhites lifted last years trophy only days after securing the Welsh Premier title at Porthmadog, beating Carmarthen Town 4-0 in a one-sided contest.

The draw has paired off some other interesting sides, with the best looking like Uefa-Cup bound Haverfordwest County entertaining Abersywyth Town, who had their European dream ended by FC Dinaburg recently. Preliminary round matches will be played between Cymru Alliance champions Airbus UK and Welshpool Town, with the other league new-boys Llanelli AFC visiting Carmarthen Town

The competition will again be under the sponsors handle of Loosemores of Cardiff Challenge Cup, and once again will not merit a European place for the winners meaning some sides could field reserve and youth players in the competition.

Carmarthen Town v Llanelli AFC
