The 2nd round draw of the Welsh Premier Cup has been made. Tie of the round sees Welsh Prem leaders TNS take on Aberystwyth Town, whilst Caernarfon face Conference South Newport. Here's the full draw and reaction
Bangor City v Connah’s Quay Nomads
Caernarfon Town v Newport County
Port Talbot Town v Haverfordwest County
Total Network Solutions v Aberystwyth Town
These matches will be played during the week commencing November 8th 2004. One match will be broadcast live on BBC Wales television. The stand-out fixture appears to be Welsh Premier leaders TNS taking on mid-Wales rivals at Treflan and looks a good bet for being the live fixture.
Connah's Quay Nomads will travel west along the A55 to play high-flying Bangor City, who will be confident of reaching the lucrative 3rd round draw. Bangor thrashed Newtown at Latham Park in front of the TV cameras in round 1, and are scoring goals for fun in the Welsh Premier. However, Nomads should not be underestimated and achieved a fine result in the 1st round, beating exiles Merthyr Tydfil 2-1 at the Deeside Stadium.
Caernarfon pulled off arguably the shock of the first round, knocking out in-form Caerws, with a 1-0 victory at the Oval. They will have to improve on their inconsistent league form if they are to knock out Conference South exiles Newport County.
Port Talbot needed extra time to see off Cwmbran Town 3-2 in the first round, and will have to be at their best to proceed past Haverfordwest County.
The reward for victory in the 2nd round is a place in the draw for the 3rd round and a guaranteed money-spinning home tie against one of Rhyl, Swansea City, Wrexham or Cardiff City.
