Neath and Bridgend to merge - Will it affect us?

Bridgend and Neath have revealed plans to the premiership clubs about them pooling their resources for European and Celtic competitions. However the original plans had Bridgend to possibly form a provincial team with Pontypridd so how will Ponty be affected by this latest news?

Bridgend and Neath to merge BUT what about Pontypridd?

    Bridgend and Neath have revealed a plan to merge for European and Celtic competitions (see www.reddragonrugby.co.uk) but what impact could this have on Pontypridd?

    Original plans had stated that Pontypridd would merge with either Bridgend or Cardiff to form a province for Celtic and European action and so with many people against a merger between Pontypridd and Cardiff to form a provincial team and the Bridgend merger looking unlikely, there are only two other options. Firstly, Pontypridd join with Caerphilly to form a province or Pontypridd create a province along with clubs from Rhondda Cynon Taff.

    At the moment it is unclear exactly what will happen however it will not be long until the plans are revealed for the changes to the game in Wales.
