Bridgend's Brewery Field will host this year's Rugby League international between Wales and Australia. The game, which will be the second match on the 2003 Kangaroo tour of the UK, takes place on Sunday November 2nd with a 2.00pm kick-off.
Brewery Field is the home of Bridgend RFC and has a capacity of over 12,000. The stadium also has excellent corporate hospitality facilities following a significant investment by Bridgend club.
The Rugby Football League's Marketing Director Chris Green is delighted to have secured the venue.
He said:" Brewery Field is a high quality stadium which creates an excellent atmosphere. We feel that it is highly suitable to stage this exciting international fixture between Wales and Australia"
Green added:" We are also pleased to be able to support the continued development of Welsh Rugby League by staging such a prestigious event in an
area which already boasts a Total RL.Com Conference club [Bridgend Blue Bulls] and is bordered by areas which are also represented in that growing competition.
"We hope fans from Bridgend and throughout Wales will flock to see their heroes take on what is arguably the best rugby team in the world".
Also commenting on the announcement, Bridgend RFC Chief Executive and former Salford player and Welsh Rugby League international Adrian Hadley said:" I
am also delighted that Brewery Field will be hosting this international fixture. Being an ex-Welsh Rugby League international myself , it's very exciting to be involved in the project and I hope we can create the type of atmosphere and passion that followed Welsh League team in 1995.
Hadley added, "The Australian Kangaroos are world champions of Rugby League and it's not every day that teams of this supreme quality play at your stadium. So I would encourage everyone in Bridgend and all Welsh sports fans to come and see what will be a great spectacle".
