Bridgend chairman Derek King welcomed the name change. "The name of a club is enormously important so people from Bridgend, Pontypridd and the other towns will feel part of the region," he said.

"This is a major step forward. We're all still smarting from what happened to the Celtic Warriors, but the Ospreys are the only true region not based around a stand-alone club."

On the messageboard on this site we’ve had fans from Aberavon, Bridgend & Pontypridd welcoming the decision and many have suggested they would now be willing to go along and watch the Ospreys strut their stuff next season.

Its seems its all go for the Ospreys, the impressive new 20,000 all seater stadium will be their home from next season and many have had a bit of a cynical approach towards the decision suggesting it is purely down to wanting to fill the new stadium up and luring new supporters in.

They then suspect the Neath and Swansea roots of the Ospreys will remain bedded in place and they won’t feel part of the Region in the long term.
