    Mefin Davies joined the club from Neath R.F.C in August 2001  due to the arrival of "international" hooker Barry Williams at the Knoll. His first few months as a Pontypridd player were promising despite the fact that Ponty had lost many of their early season games. As the season continued Mefin got better and better and the Pontypridd pack became one of the most feared in Wales.  

    In his first season with Ponty, Mefin scored 25 points (5 tries) with key scores against Cardiff in the Principality Cup Semi Final and London Irish in the Parker Pen Shield Semi Final. He also scored against Sale Sharks in the final of the Parker Pen Shield but was unable to prevent Ponty losing 25 - 22. 

    As a reward for his outstanding season with both Pontypridd and Wales A, Mefin was called up to the senior Wales squad for the tour to South Africa where he gained his first cap, coming on as a late replacement on the 15th June 2002 against South Africa. Since coming back from South Africa, Mefin has taken over the captaincy of Pontypridd R.F.C from Dale McIntosh.
