Timba,

Sadly today @ Formula 1,Update.net the article said Kimi has given up for a 2011 seat in F1. Maybe it's bull and he'll still get an offer. Don't want a load of pay drivers for F1's future.
Talent first as far as I'm concerned.
I'd love to see him back.....

PS The same goes for Villeneuve in a simular article in the BBC rumour section for Friday. He's giving up his dream of returning to F1 and building his own team. He says NASCAR will be the focus.

That would be easy for him to do if RB got a support driver in webbers car and had the FIA in their pockets. Any top driver could have done that given the limited competition.

Herman,

As much as we here are making an attempt to make this site an even playing field and remain objective, I personally remember that JV statement. To this day it still rings loud. Think what you may of JV; but he always called a spade a spade.

I guess when you are at the top you carry clout, guidelines often wander, but it doesn't mean integrity should falter as well. It takes many facets to be a true champion, not just mere numbers.

I have one juicy here... well its not rumour its fact about ALONSOS strategy mistake:

Alonso’s role in Ferrari strategy revealed in pit messages
The discussions on the Ferrari pit wall that led to crucial decision that cost Fernando Alonso the world championship have been revealed.

The exchange of messages between Alonso and his race engineer Andrea Stella, which was not broadcast during the race, shows the team’s preoccupation with Alonso’s position compared to Webber.

It also shows how Alonso urged the team to use Felipe Massa to hold Webber up.

The radio transcript, published by Corriere della Sera, shows how Ferrari made the mistake of reacting to Webber’s pit stop instead of keeping Alonso out.

Lap 9

Alonso is 1.7 seconds behind Jenson Button and 1.4s ahead of Webber, who is 0.8s ahead of Massa.

Andrea Stella: “You gained three tenths on Webber. Felipe is closing in too.”

Lap 12

Webber pits.

AS: “Webber has stopped and Vettel is also losing ground on Hamilton.”
Fernando Alonso: “If you see that Felipe can overtake him in a lap call him in.”
AS: “We are thinking about it, concentrate on Button.”

Lap 14

Massa pits.

FA: “How did it work with Felipe?”
AS: “He came out behind Webber”

Lap 15

Ferrari tell Alonso to pit on lap 16.

AS: “OK, come in [to the pits] now.”
FA: “OK”
AS: “You will come out close to Webber. You are in front”.

Lap 17

Alonso is 1.1s ahead of Webber and 1.5s behind Vitaly Petrov.

FA: “What’s the situation?”
AS: “We have to overtake the Renault in front, he won’t stop any more. After that it’s Rosberg.”

Lap 22

Alonso is 0.5s behind Petrov. None of the cars that were in front of him before he pitted have come in yet.

AS: “I know you are giving everything but it’s critical to overtake Petrov.”

Petrov is obvious coz there is LADA and other Russian sponsors,i never had a doubt.

Hulkenberg is tough call coz Willians did same as Ferrari did to Kimi which W Weber is really angry, they didnt leave time to do other deal to Nico.

@McLaren

No, its MGP time now!!!!

I still wonder if Renault will pick up Hulkenburg if Williams cannot find money to keep him and opt for Maldonado (and his reported $15mil). Rumor has it Williams are still trying to find money to keep the Hulk.

If the Hulk would land in Renault, which I think he deserves, Petrov could be a replacement for DiGrassi. With the Russian investment there, seems natural.

How about HRT? As a hopeless JV fan, I can only hope his consortium of sponsors and colleagues will come in in the 11th hour to scoop up what's left and be on the grid next year with tech support from Toyota. Forget NASCAR for now...come back to F1!

(still you all value him, the teflon man smiling smiley)

I think the HULK would be good man for MGP. Basically he did better than eighter one of current drivers by taking the pole.

BMW and Toyota etc. It was a powertrip that ended in economy crisis. I still would have liked to see them at F1. I rather see teams to pay the drivers than vice versa.

If another driver had lurked beneath Michael Schumacher's red helmet in 2010, boss Ross Brawn has admitted Mercedes GP would have ousted him.

British television pundit Eddie Jordan, Schumacher's first ever F1 boss, said in Singapore after the German's incident strewn run to 13th place that he "would sack him".

"He's clearly not good enough on this performance we've seen," the Irishman charged.

Asked a similar question by F1's official website, Mercedes GP chief Brawn admitted on Wednesday that - if Schumacher was not the famous seven time world champion and record-setting legend - the struggling occupant of this year's car number 3 might have been shown the door.

"To be honest, probably not," said the Briton when asked if he would have persevered with a different driver showing Schumacher's current poor level of performance.

"But because we know Michael, we know that there is still a lot to come because Michael is in many fields more talented than others -- in driving and in the cooperation with the team," insisted Brawn.

"The team aren't particularly happy with the way Michael is contributing. If he were a rookie we surely would have asked ourselves if he has the capacity to advance. With Michael we know that he has, or at least did have once. We are hoping for more from him to behonest" he added.

No-one should have a place because of who they once were.

F1 is all about results, continuing with MS makes a mockery of the team trying to move forwards when all they can do with him is look back to past results. What about the future?????

We dont care about WDC's with ferrari thats all just history now.

All this about 2011 being his make or break year is rubbish, After the first few races of this year when he showed that his come back was a disaster, all the MS fans were saying give him til mid season, then we'll know. Come mid season, they were saying wait til later in the year, and now they are saying wait til 2011. What's going to happen in 2011 when he's still crap, whats it going to be, wait til 2012??

Sooner or later he's going to give it up or be pensioned off. He's a waste of a good seat.

Pits,

Don't agree. It's not rubbish. 2011 will determine his fate.
No more wait and see, it's do or retire for him.
I will also say the last 4 or 5 races there was an improvement to give some credit to his fans. If the car is better in 2011 I think we'll see a much better performing Michael.
If he does falter, I believe by mid-season he'll be offered the same squeeze play Ferrari presented that triggered his early retirement.

And in Plain English.

"If he wasn't my old mate, yes he would have been sacked due to his poor performance."

That's just my point, Ross is keeping him due to their personal relationship rather than his worth to the team. If it was anyone else he would have been dropped due to poor performance. That is exactly what is holding the team back.

I see what you are saying, but in our world it still comes down to the old saying "It's not what you know, but who you know."
Plus my 2 cents that I feel even with the lack of performance Michael's experience was still an asset to the team in many areas out side of point gathering. Even if he had matched Nico's point production they would have not finished higher than they did.
Besides that our forum may be one of those boring ones. We got two drivers that can stir the pot and turn in exciting drives at the drop of a hat.
I hope both guys have a car and a fire under them in 2011.

The European menu seems to be drying up. Even with these races in the east we in North America see the broadcast at awkward time slots. I wish the drivers would protest driving into the falling sunlight and during the late afternoon rain downfalls just so Europe gets a healthy viewing time.
Sorry to all mY European friends but the rest of us have lost major sleep watching races for decades. You guys can get up a wee early or stay up a little later now and then. The rings under your eyes don't happen until the 15th or 16th race.

Thank you Contrarian. I appreciate it!!
--------------

I rather see nasty driving rule change affecting on Webber.

Im getting signs more and more about Hammi and Macca been strong for 08 was because of the Ferrari docs. I see Hammis value going downhill. They were not so strong 09-10 and now basically Ferrari got Pat Fry. And with Pirelli KERs etc. the Ferrari docs are worthless. But its Macca and they surely can do miracles. But i doubt the 2011.

Petrov who?? Oh the one who outdrove Alonso, surely he will have contract smiling smiley

@Ferrari.. I dont see Ferraris legacy trashed by this little man.

@Equality
If they didnt have the equality when team orders were banned, why would they have now when team orders are ok. What a @#$%&.

Advertising and Sponsorship has always been somewhat a mystery to me. How do you really gauge returns for expenditures.

Millions for 30 second ad during the Super Bowl ?
Thousands for a decal on a remote part of an F1 car traveling at 270 kms in midfield amongst three other cars ?

Just because a person is inundated with commercials doesn't mean they will be running out tomorrow and buying their product or service. does it ?
In fact if the same commercial is overdone it almost makes me avoid the product at times.

How about you ?

That is, Button senior must have tied on a good one to forget where he parked the Ferrari. Life's a @#$%&.lol

F1: its global TV market audience increased to 527 million viewers in 2010.

Gehard Berger; does not see any chance "for other teams to beat Red Bull for the next few years."

Its interesting to note that when I posted the comment "Based on 2010 results, Webber is a far bigger threat to alonso than schumacher." in another thread, I was slated. Now posters are agreeing with me. I knew I was right.

Alonso was just winding up Red Bull, the Macca boys and Nico.

No not really. No one agrees Webber was a bigger threat. Certainly Vettel and the Macca boys but Webber is weak and useless

I always said that Alonso made that comment at. Ferrari event as a Mark of respect for MS in PR terms. Massa made similar comments

Rosberg achieved a lot with a dog of a car but does not appear on any of the WDC's radars. Once he wins a race from his 92nd race onwards, then he will be considered

It will be nice if he can win before his 100th race, though

f2005,
Your right, I'm surprised Nico took the bait, but maybe there's more behind things, who knows ?
I don't agree Webber will be a push over, he will attempt to challenge Vettel big time and they will still have that car under them. If they can manage not to feud between each other like last season they will most likely be very hard to beat.
Webber does have Helmut Marko as an extra thorn to deal with, but at least he knows that up front.
I think we'll see somewhat of a replay of last season, my only hope is we are quicker, and Renault doesn't find some serious wings.

Perhaps Nico now considers himself top man. Based on 2010 results, Nico [142 points] is a bigger threat than schumacher [72 points], if that form continues into next year we will see some changes in MGP.

You are only as good as your last season... So rightly so. Nico is top dog in Merc

Just the same way you rightly say MS achievements are history... But we all know that if he gets that spark again, Rosberg will have a lot to deal with. He is now a wounded beast lol

Sessions... Is there any news on Schumacher

There is so much out there on Nico but it looks like Schumacher has a media blackout after blaming merc for his woes lol

Since then Ross has been rightly saying that Nico needs a win to be recognised and he may win this season and that Pirelli's may not suit Schumacger like people think

But no word from Schumacher apart from comments from Brundle, Alonso, Mika, Ross etc...

Re: DAILY F1 TRIVIA AND RUMOURS

Seems to be all quite negative! Ross having a downer on Nico, then putting some early warnings on the table that the Pirellis might not suit schumuncher!!!!

Perhaps schumacher has been hanging on to see what the new tyres are like, and if he still cant drive it, he will walk away??? Sounds like Ross is putting that idea out!! It's got to be a serious possibility.

Never knew you were sessions.... In the Pits

But you do make a fair point

Why does Ross also say MS will like the new car better yet the tyres might not suit him as you are inferring.

Thought the car and tyres are a package lol

Re: DAILY F1 TRIVIA AND RUMOURS
Posted by: In The Pits (IP Logged)

Perhaps the situation is that Ross needs to clearly signal that schumnucher has been working on developing the car - [a Mercedes car] all year, but not the tyres. Therefore the car will be much better [no blame for MS or MGP] but the tyres just wont work. [Also no blame for MS and MGP]. So when he walks away, there will be no blame coming to MS or MGP and no possibility that MS could blame MGP or MGP blame MS which is otherwise very likely.

I can almost hear it now, "No No, Michael's neck is fine, but the situation with the tyres left Michael with no alternative but to finish racing at this point. Pirelli have requested Michael assist them with development of their tyres as his vast experience will be invaluable. Michael has graciously accepted, and he will only get $20M a year. This leaves a race seat with MGP and we are pleased to announce the return of Nick Heidfeld from Pirelli".

The king is dead, long live the king.

Symonds: Renault will shine, Schumacher may struggle
Mon, 24 Jan 18:00:59 2011

Email
Print
The newly-renamed Lotus Renault GP outfit can leapfrog Mercedes Grand Prix and become the closest challenger to F1’s foremost trio of Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes in 2011, reckons Pat Symonds – but he admits he fears Michael Schumacher could be in for another season of discontent.
Whilst Mercedes began the F1 2010 World Championship campaign aiming to challenge for glory as it had done in its former title-winning Brawn GP guise, the Brackley-based concern was never truly in the same ballpark as the sport’s leading three players, and a mid-season slump saw the bulk of efforts switch to an early focus on developing the 2011 car in a quest to bring about a significant improvement this year.
Renault, by contrast, began proceedings in disarray following the well-documented and hugely damaging ‘Singapore-gate’ race-fixing scandal, the subsequent resignation of the very top management tier – Symonds included – the majority withdrawal of the parent manufacturer, the loss of several key sponsors and the departure of double world champion Fernando Alonso, yet the turnaround was quite spectacular, with Robert Kubica snatching three podium finishes as the Enstone-based operation fought valiantly if ultimately in vain to pip Mercedes to fourth spot in the final constructors’ standings.
Whilst not forecasting a massive upheaval of the pecking order in F1 2011 – regulation changes notwithstanding – Symonds does predict that his erstwhile employer will leapfrog its closest rival on the grand prix grid and become the principal challenger to the sport’s elite.
“I think people forget that until 2009, you can go back 30 years and all the championships had been won by Ferrari, by McLaren, by Williams and by the Benetton/Renault group,” the ex-Renault F1 executive director of engineering told Crash.net. “2009 and 2010 were absolutely great because we had two new teams come in [to the title-winners’ club], but essentially you’ve still got the old brigade there and it takes a lot to shake the order. One would love to think that F1 is all about meritocracy, but unfortunately it’s a lot to do with budgets as well, and budgets don’t change overnight.
“I think we’ll see the same old protagonists fighting it out at the front, but Renault are in a good position. I have my biases having worked there for a long while, but they’re a great group of guys and they took a very bold step last year in updating their wind tunnel over the winter. That’s not something where you just wake up one morning and say ‘I’m going to do it’ – you have to plan it a long way in advance, and of course they put in a huge CFD facility prior to that so under the resource restrictions they could switch their work from the wind tunnel to CFD while the wind tunnel was being improved.
“I know that the wind tunnel is a huge improvement, and I think that was shown in the progress they made through the year – but with Mercedes, I’m not so sure. It’s a very downsized team from the team that made the Brawn. I think the jury is still out, but I would probably favour Renault going in front of Mercedes.”
One aspect that the Englishman clearly has little time for, however, is the embarrassing ongoing naming row between Group Lotus and Team Lotus, with the matter due before London’s High Court today (Monday). Symonds contends that whilst it is not merely a question of black-and-white, right-or-wrong, the sooner the situation is resolved, the better it will be for all concerned.
“It’s just ridiculous, it’s beyond words, isn’t it, that something like that can happen,” he lamented. “I think there’s so much going on behind-the-scenes that we probably don’t know about, but this is the sort of petty bickering that doesn’t do F1 any good. It doesn’t present a professional image.”
Finally, the 57-year-old offered his views on the off-colour return to competition last year of record-breaking multiple F1 World Champion Schumacher, who he helped to engineer to the first two of his seven drivers’ crowns in the top flight at Benetton back in 1994 and 1995. Whilst confessing that he is a fully-fledged member of the ‘Schumi’ fan club, Symonds concedes that the 91-time grand prix-winner’s best days may now sadly be behind him.
“Firstly, I have to say I was very surprised,” he revealed. “When it was announced that he was coming back, I absolutely thought he’d be racing at the front. I have so much respect for that guy; he’s a wonderful driver, he’s a wonderful person to be honest and I really, really was rooting for him last year and I really felt for him when it didn’t go as well as we all hoped it would.
“Will he get back [to his best]? I don’t know. One of the things I know about Michael from working with him is that he can adapt his driving style to any car – those who remember that classic race in ’94 in Barcelona when he was stuck in fifth gear will appreciate just how good he is at adapting – so to say the car didn’t suit him I find a little bit difficult to believe, because I think he would have adapted to it very quickly.
“One can say that at the end of the year he was more competitive than at the beginning and I think that’s true, but he didn’t quite do what I expected so I’m not so sure it’s still there. I think he’s found a good rival in Nico [Rosberg – team-mate] and I think he’s going to have to work very hard. I hope, hope, hope that he does it this year, because I really believe he deserves it – he is one of the greatest champions our sport has ever had, and I really want to see him leave on top again.”

Good article. Say what you may about Symonds and crashgate but he's very knowledgeable and connected. What he says above makes lots of sense and may hold true.
His comments and respect for Michael tends to sum the opinion of many F1 fans. Seeing a champion go out on a high note always seems to be right, but as he said we'll see.
Other comments concerning the "old brigade" and F1 should be consist of meritocracy are on the money.
I'm not so sure keeping him on the outside looking in, is the best for F1. Thinkers and doers are hard to find.

Thanks and a good find, f2005

I dont think he was the mastermind anyways, because he didnt win anything with the move.

Alonso did the Ferrari deal basically that day. And Flaw is his manager. (without that win Alonso would have been out of the radar)

Nelsinho got the new contract. (which was ofcourse broken later)

This is a widely held view, although the race in 94 was more to do with the flexibility of a good engine, it has always been said by his fans that he was super-adaptable. Thats why I have never believed the story about un-suitable tyres. I tend to go with the prost / symonds view that he wont ever get his top speed back. Also, Hamilton and Vettel are probably better than he was at his best, or at least on his level so they will always be better than him now he's old.

I think the demands on a Nascar driver and an F1 driver are totally different. Nascar is comparitively low energy car driving with the skill in car balance. Experience helps with set up - set up is king in Nascar. Older drivers can shine there. Its more of a paced marathon particulary oval races.

F1 is high energy hard work in an extremely light weight car and this really is the area of the younger man with lightning fast reflexes. More of a 100m sprint than a marathon.

Losing Nick is rather disappointing. He may not be flamboyant nor a world champion, but he's fast consistent and a very workable team mate. He was able to outscore some of the best in the business. Kubica, Villeneuve, and others.
I don't know if it's pay drivers or what, but I think he can out drive all the drivers from at least 8th place and back.
He's not old, he's experienced and in his prime, but the system is sadly unable to use him.
So long Nick. I'll miss you.

P.S. Mercedes should maybe take a harder look before he's not considered as our back-up driver for one more season.

What say you ?

If Merc owns the team 100%, Ross wont have any influence on drivers. Merc will pay the money and make the choice as demanded by Stuttgart, and they will want their pound of flesh.

More so on paper, but they already call the shots. I really believe they put lots of trust into Ross, so I doubt they will not allow him to lead or cause interference. If things fail I'm sure there would be changes down the road, but Brawn has established lots of credibility IMHO.

It's odd that the FIA is limiting the use of the moveable rear wing cause of too much overtaking!? Wasn't that the main problem after all? no overtaking?

Re: DAILY F1 UPDATES
Posted by: sessions (IP Logged)
Date: 14/02/2011 19:42

Spartan,

It boggles my mind the way the FIA continually shoots themselves in the foot. It's never ending with every component within F1. The wing issue above mentioned. Cutting costs, but changing the rules every five minutes that ends up costing teams millions. Restricting new teams of having carte blanche and then complaining that they are back markers. Talking of caps but allowing team exceptions, which then stalls without progress.

The list goes on and on and in reality they have no one else but themselves to blame for the mother load of the problems F1 faces IMHO.

FIA is now in power. They can basically shuffle the field when they feel like it.

They can change situations even during the season.

But what is the right way. The "Ferrari / RB domination", or changing field.

For fans clearly 5 men still having shot for the title at last race sounds better. Even its artificially made by changing rules and tire mix etc.

If I had to change something it would be Tilke's designs for newer tracks. They limit the so much wanted overtaking and it's useless having state-of-the-art hotels around it and pit walls if the track sucks... The pit exit in Abu Dhabi is one fine example, a big concrete wall 90 degree turn into a tunnel on cold tires, yer right! Imagine if a car had to stop in the tunnel what a mess we would witness. Bring back the old classics.

I had hoped that when Moseley retired the FIA would stop its constant tinkering and trying to manipulate which team it wanted to win [usually Ferrari]. But it seems just as bad under JT.

As far as the Tilke tracks are concerned, they are designed to look good on TV not for real racing, yea they look the part, but they will never be like Spa, Monza or Silverstone. The only one thats any good is Istanbul

About tracks, Bernie has raised his fees too high. How much is enough??

He and Tilke must have some kind of weird deal to destroy all the legendary tracks, and then build boring tracks to some non traditional place.

Lets hope LOTUS with trulli and Kova can lift the team to middle of the pack. What has been clear in testing is their reliability is really week though.

New Mercedes quickest in straight line - report

Mercedes might not have the fastest car overall for 2011, but the W02 is the quickest in a straight line.

That is the finding of Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, after the team's Norbert Haug admitted in Barcelona last weekend that the car would struggle to finish in the top ten if a race were held now.

But the German media report insists that Brackley based Mercedes actually made a solid step forward last week and is "the leader in terms of top speed".

Haug, admitting that a straightline advantage is "important" in light of the close combat expected in 2011, is also sounding more positive than earlier.

"Because we were able to do more laps (in Barcelona), we understand the car and the tyres better. And that brings us laptime," he said.

Following the cancellation of the pre-race test in Bahrain, the teams' last outing before Australia will now take place in Barcelona next month.

"If everything goes in the right direction, the Silver Arrow may surprise you," warned Haug.

Or in opther words, the car has a significant lack of downforce which makes us about 1.5 seconds off the pace. But at least at a track like Barcelona with the longest straight, we are fastest in a straight line.

It makes you wonder how big the gap would be without the long straight to pull some time back on?

Mercedes has finally confirmed reports it has taken over 100 per cent of the Brackley based F1 team.

We reported earlier in February that Ross Brawn and his business partners had agreed to sell the outstanding 24.9 per cent of the former Brawn GP team to German carmaker Mercedes and its Abu Dhabi shareholder Aabar.

An official spokesman at the time refused to confirm the report, and Brawn said the news was "just speculation".

But it was announced in the form of a media statement on Monday.

"This majority stakeholding demonstrates our determination to build a long-term Formula One involvement on an even more successful platform," commented Daimler chairman Dr Dieter Zetsche.

Mercedes parent Daimler now owns 60 per cent, with Aabar holding the remaining 40 per cent stake.

Added Mercedes GP board chairman Dr Thomas Weber: "We now also fulfill Ross' wish of being in a position to focus wholly on the complex technical challenges of Formula One and on his role as our team principal."

"The acquisition is conditional on clearance from the German Bundeskartellamt," read the statement, referring to the competition regulator.

I guess you have to say, "nice work if can get it." We'll see how long they hang around. If Mercedes has a fast car there's still more money to be made, so we may see them in picture as long as the sun continues to shine brightly.

Besides; Mercedes makes hugh profits on all the glistening array of various models you see slithering by on the streets and highways.

Money, money, money, sadly makes the world go around, and especially for the top "Lords of Rings" in F1.

I think we have been through this before.

I'm not for one moment suggesting Brawn has committed a criminal offence that takes far to much proof and Honda are unlikely to demand action. But to what extent any Mercedes employee trusts Brawn knowing he's stiffed every one of them to line his own pocket who knows.

If I were a Brawn director I think I might be giving a lot to charity to salve my conscience. But maybe that's why I never made a lot of money.

70's

The money world is ruthless; and those who venture into it better be shrewd and will prepared. To worry about the small man is seldom a concern. It's survival of the fittest personified. Something beyond the common mans comprehension.
Most of us haven't made the big bucks, so don't feel bad.
I'm glad to be among the millions of people who have time for each other, and attempt to slice up the pie evenly.
But I do admit to have an excess amount of money would make family and friends who are close to me have an easier time of it.
But what the hey, it can be a lot worse than the way most of us live.

Hang in there.

Sessions,

Don't worry I made enough to be fine which is why I feel free to judge Ross and say he has dirty hands.

There is a big difference between being ruthless and going as far as Brawn and Fry have gone. I doubt anyone would say Fry is worth £50 million.

They were both employees got lucky and screwed everyone else in the team becasue Honda were stupid.

It's ironic that Patrick Head should work for years risk his money his effort investing in a company he played an important part in building and finally when he decides to sell up an retire he get a third of what Brawn gets from pulling the wool over Honda's eyes and one years work with no risks.

Head has been more than ruthless in his time but at least he can hold his head up and say I'm a mostly honest man. That's not something everyone can do.

70's,

Firstly nice to hear you are in financial position not to worry about your existence. That coupled with good health are the makings for a good life.
I followed most of the comments on the Ferrari board about the whole Brawn/Fry thing.
It would have been nice to not see Honda get jammed up because they withdrew with loads of dignity.
Offering leaving employee's with some stability would have been a good jester, but at least many continued on and still have a job.
Sadly, but as life teaches us it isn't always fair and there are those who take a lot more than they give.

Lastly, at least F1 is still here for all of us fans.

The history of this team is funny

Ken Tyrrell got screwed by Max and Bernie
Craig Pollock screwed BAT
JV screwed himself.
Nick Fry screwed Prodrive
Brawn and Fry screwed Honda

The good thing is the team keeps going.

Mr Fry is the only person to make it into the table twice. He also goes down as being part of the worlds worst sponsorship deal. $5 million for title sponsorship of a WDC winning car a sea slug could have got more.

Yeah, it seems to have a colourful past. Hopefully Mercedes will present a solid team with staying power and professionalism.

BMW left Sauber high and dry, They also messed with Williams.

Toyota screwed the pooch also.

Honda at least knew how to exit, which sadly kind of solidifies the adage " Nice guys finish Last. "

JV fans I suppose would agree to that as well.

FIA allows extra tyre testing on GP Fridays

The FIA has agreed to Pirelli’s request to allow the teams to do some extra tyre testing on Fridays of Grand Prix meetings.

The teams will now get their hands on four extra sets of development tyres (two per driver) of a different spec to the primes and options specified for that weekend.

Apart from anything else the change will help to ensure that the track remains busy on those Fridays, as there have been fears that cars would do limited running over the two 90 minute sessions due to lack of tyres.

The downside is that Friday’s overall times will become even harder to assess without keeping a close eye on what each driver has used, because three tyres will be in play, and quick times could be set on tyres which can’t be run for the rest of the weekend.

The FIA explained the change as follow: At certain events, one additional specification of dry weather tyre may be made available to all teams for evaluation purposes. Teams will be informed about such an additional specification at least one week before the start of the relevant event. Two sets of these tyres will be allocated to each driver for use during P1 and P2, and any such tyres must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of P3.

There could also be weekends where teams get an additional set of that weekend’s prime tyre, for use on Fridays, which will also help to keep the track busy:

One additional set of ‘prime’ specification tyres may be made available to all drivers. Teams will be informed about such an additional set at least one week before the start of the relevant event. In this instance, the additional set will be available for use during P1 and P2. One set of ‘prime’ tyres must then be returned to the tyre supplier after P1, and two further sets of ‘prime’ and one set of ‘option’ specification tyres returned before the start of P3.

Finally, there are some tweaks to the safety car rules, as follows:

The safety car speed limit (an approximate 40% decrease in lap time) will now be enforced over two laps instead of one. The purpose is to ensure that cars are driven at a safe speed until they reach the safety car.

During a safety car period the pit exit light will remain green for the duration, unless the race is subsequently suspended.

Other than when the safety car has been asked to use the pit lane, no car may enter the pits while the safety car is deployed unless it is for the purpose of changing tyres.

I have said he will be put as number 2 from first race. But i guess Pirellis and MRW gives him new tools for fighting.

I mean MRW is used in Qs so if he is brave enough... and Pirelli brings a whole new ball game to Qs. And 3-4 pits to races. Rob and Massa might just surprice us afterall.
