Jenson Button's third place in Malaysia means more than just a share of the glory for employees of the Brackley outfit. A special incentive scheme at BAR means that whenever the drivers are successful, the staff get a cash bonus.

This incentive scheme involves everyone within the team, from the ubiquitous 'canteen lady' to the chief mechanic, and each point gets them a cash bonus of £25.

Therefore Jenson's Sepang success will result in a £54,000 share out, with each worker receiving a £150 bonus in their pay packet next month. This is in addition to the £75 they will have received for Button's 6th in Australia.

Between 1999 and 2002 the bonus used to be £100 a point but in 2003 this was reduced to £50 a point and this year stands at £25 per point.

This of course pales into insignificance when compared to a certain team boss who handed over his £1m personal bonus to his workforce last year.
