Davidson set for Midland F1 role?

Anthony Davidson appears to be in the running for a drive at a number of teams for 2006, with Midland F1 now appearing to back the BAR Honda tester.

Midland F1 managing director Colin Kolles commented that "Anthony Davidson is one of my favourite drivers. Also for Trevor [Carlin] he is one of the favourites, but it's not only our decision."

Davidson raced for Midland sporting director Trevor Carlin's British Formula Three team in 2001, finishing as runner up while also winning the European F3 championship and testing for BAR Honda.

"We were looking at Davidson for a long time," continued Kolles, "but we will see if we can find a solution. It's not that easy. It's not a question of expense, not a problem."

Davidson was offered a test at Williams last year, but contractual difficulties between Williams and BAR conspired against him. Talks were also going on with Sauber and Red Bull Racing.

Midland F1 agreed to purchase Jordan Grand Prix on Monday, lending more credibility to the team.
