BAR haven't offered Davidson to Williams

Despite British media stories that BAR Honda have now offered Anthony Davidson to Williams in exchange for Jenson Button, we can reveal that it's not true.

"No offer has been made and there have been no discussions," said BAR Honda boss Nick Fry to Reuters. "I've read a number of stories which have suggested a deal is being put together. That is not the case."

A number of British newspapers have run the story today, suggesting that BAR Honda have offered Anthony Davidson for free for up to three years, with BAR paying Davidson's salary throughout that time, as well as a cash sum of up to $5 million.

"There is no suggestion to date from Williams that they want to do a deal," added Fry.

Williams have previously shown interest in Davidson, wanting to take the Englishman on board last year at the height of 'Buttongate', but this move was eventually blocked by BAR after they failed to agree on the driver returning to the Brackley team at the end of the contract.

"He's used to driving for a decently-resourced and run Formula One team and I think Anthony is raring to drive," said Fry of Davidson. "We wouldn't unreasonably stand in his way to do that."
