Carroll's budget problems could force GP2 exit

BAR Honda Young Driver Adam Carroll is facing a sponsorship crisis that may see the Northern Irishman forced out of the GP2 race series.

Super Nova team boss David Sears said "Adam faces a sponsorship crisis in his quest to finish the season."

"It's always been the same for me," Carroll told Autosport-Atlas.com. "I've always gone race by race, and not known what will happen at the next one. At the start of the year it was okay because I had a little bit of money coming in, but that soon dried up."

Carroll has impressed so far this season, although a recent run of bad luck has seen him drop down the championship order. He was ninth in the first race at Hungary on Saturday, and finished ninth again on Sunday.

Carroll now lies sixth in the championship, 45 points behind series leader Heikki Kovalainen.

It is understood that BAR Honda are unable to fund the budget shortfall. "If we get through the year the situation will be better," added Carroll, "but they [BAR] can't pay for me here."
