Belgium: Takuma Sato handed 10 place penalty

BAR Honda's Takuma Sato faces an uphill battle in Brazil following his exit from today's Belgian Grand Prix. Already due to run second in qualifying, he's now been slapped with a 10 place penalty on the grid.

Takuma hit the rear wheel of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari following a safety car period, forcing both drivers to retire from the race.

"With cold tyres and brakes, it was very difficult to stop the car and unfortunately, I touched the back of him," explained Takuma. "Obviously, I am disappointed that we could not deliver a good result today."

Race stewards spoke to both drivers after the race ruled that the Sato should drop 10 places on the grid at his next race.

Nick Fry, BAR Honda's team boss, was quick to support his driver, explaining that "he simply locked up and hit the back of Michael. It was simply unfortunate. Under these conditions it's obviously very difficult and he is clearly quite upset."

Schumacher was less supportive, saying "We've often experienced Hara-Kiri reactions from him in the past and that was another one today. I don't know what sort of therapy might help him."
