BAR Honda Young Drivers Alan van der Merwe and Adam Carroll joined Honda at the Southampton International Boat Show (SIBS) on Monday.

SIBS is the largest boat show on the south coast of England and an important outlet for Britain's marine industry, and Honda is one of the title sponsors of this year's event.

First stop for Alan and Adam was the Honda stand, which features product from each of the manufacturer's divisions: cars, motorcycles and power equipment (which, of course, includes marine). "There are some great cars on the stand," said Adam, "but the boats are the stars here. This is my first boat show and I'm really impressed."

BAR Honda also has a strong presence at the show, with a Honda ride-on lawnmower in team livery, a BAR Honda show car, and a special 'Pit Stop Challenge' game, where fans can test their wheel changing skills against the clock. Naturally, the two Young Drivers were asked to have a go with favourable results; the pair's team went away having set a new record time. "We had fun in the Pit Stop Challenge," commented Alan. "And our time shows that we were pretty competitive. In fact, we're thinking of giving some tips to the boys back at the factory!"

The Young Drivers then headed out onto the water for a spin in BAR Honda's own 150hp powerboat and then the faster sister-vessel, a 225hp purpose-built race boat. Both boats are part of the largest off-shore powerboat fleet in the world, having competed this year in the Honda Formula 4-Stroke championships.
