Dai Young has announced the injury situation of both Andy Powell and Jonah Lomu following the Blues 46-11 win over Borders on Saturday.

Jonah Lomu's injury looked very serious, as the big man twisted his ankle very uncomfortably whilst getting his pass away to Mark Lewis. He has since visited the hospital, and the good news is nothing is broken.

It means he will pull on a Blues shirt again, and could even be back in time for the Connach game at the Arms Park on 29th April.

However, he does miss the crunch match against the Dragons on Wednesday evening at Rhodney Parade.

Head coach Dai Young commented on Lomu's condition,

"Jonah's injury is not as bad as we thought and he hasn't broken anything. But he looks extremely doubtful for Wednesday's game and fingers crossed he will be back for the Connacht game. Ankle injuries are not the kind of thing you get over in a couple of days and it was badly swollen after the game."

As for Andy Powell, it's much worse news. The flanker lasted just 10 minutes on Saturday, and it's now been announce that his thumb is broken, and his season is over. It's a big loss for the Blues, who are already without Maama Molitika who is banned for Wednesday's derby match.

Young said,

"Andy's injury is more serious," said Young. "He has broken his thumb and looks like he will be out for at least six weeks. That means his season is probably over."

The team for Wednesday is expected to be announced Monday, unless injury conditions prevent release.
