Jonah Lomu's Blues career is officially over as the injury-plagued winger breaks his ankle in action against the Borders.

Having signed to play for Cardiff in New Zealands off-season, the giant Kiwi's short stay in Wales has been cut short by a serious ankle injury.

The injury came when on a run down the wing, Lomu was tacked while offloading to set up Mark Lewis' try in the last few minutes of the game. It was thought to be a 2-week injury, but a recent scan of the ankle has ruled him out for around 6-8 weeks, which means he wont feature again for the region.

Lomu arrived in Cardiff in November, and has made 10 appearances for the region scoring 1 try. He will continue playing rugby with NCP side North Harbour in May, and is still aspiring to reach New Zealand's World Cup squad for 2007.

He has been a great inspiration for fans and players, and has done massive amounts of charity work aswell as working with Cardiff's younger players and on Blues coaching courses.

His story just to get back this far is a remarkeable one, and his status as a true rugby legend is well and truely cemented.

Aswell as bringing crowds to teh Arms Park and stadia arouns Europe with Cardiff, he has put the Blues in the main beam of the media spotlight, and has been an absolute role model to the club.

Thanks Jonah, seeing you in a Cardiff Blues shirt is an honour to the region and the city. It's been remarkeable for fans to watch you on such a close scale, and you've made many fans widlest dreams come true.

Best wishes for the future, everyone is rooting that you make the squad 18 months from now, but know your efforts alone represent an incredible atchivement.
